The Egalitarian

The country marks and celebrates the constitution formation in India which came into effect on 26th January 1950 almost three years post-independence. After Independence, the constitution was drafted which helped to govern the newly independent nation. According to the preamble, a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic, republic that secures all the citizens' justice, liberty, and equality, is the country that was officially known as the ‘Republic of India’. The real heroes are our soldiers and martyrs who have sacrificed their lives for the country and are remembered by giving prestigious awards on this day. The capital conducts parades, cultural, historical, and military displays, and eye-catching segments which showcase the cultural and social heritage of India.

I feel apart from imparting quality and valued education, the children should know about our country, its heritage, and its constitution.

“Swaraj is my birthright and I will have it”.

- Bala Gangadhar Tilak

“Discipline and united action are the real sources of strength for the nation”            Lal Bahadur Shastri

The importance of constitution provides basic rights to all the citizens of the country, it allows the politicians to rule the people. It determined the relationship between the citizen and government and specified how the government would be elected and who shall have the power and responsibility to take decisions regarding the welfare of the country.

Constitution and its Importance

A set of rules is laid which can be followed by everyone in the country. It also tells the rules and laws in the constitution which provides basic rights to all citizens. After many amendments and deliberations, a committee headed by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar presented a draft of the Indian Constitution which came into effect on 26th January 1950.

Above all, the constitution declares that India is a secular, socialist, sovereign, and democratic republic. It also assures the citizen's liberty, equality, justice, and fraternity with their affirmation of rights and duties. Among a lot of socio-economic improvised, we still face hurdles in solving issues like population explosion, pollution, poverty, unemployment, and racism which have to be broken out with the constitutional rights for the betterment of the country.

The ‘heart and soul’ of our constitution is article 32 under Part III which includes the fundamental rights of an individual in our country.

The students at St. Britto’s enacted about Dr.Ambedkar, who played a pivotal role in understanding the necessity of a democratic system by analyzing the socio-economic situations, the fundamental rights and the political system prevalent at his times, by putting forward the layout of the constitution. His life history included the battle for untouchables, Dalits, and backward classes.

"Dr. Ambedkar is called the "Messiah" of Dalits and played a seminal role in framing the constitution using his knowledge and experience.

Poem

1.  We Indians are proud to celebrate Republic day
protected by soldiers on the border who never sway
Hear me, I just have a few things to say
Reading this you may decide your way.

2.  Over the years that have past
26th January is a holiday I thought
With recent wisdom, I have got
I salute the leaders who fought.

3.  Why blame the politicians and government who don't repent
Hey! As an individual, I won't relent.
For the election freebies and compliments they recommend
I shall say 'No' and will not bend

4. Let's not watch the cricketers’ zeroes
And stay away from the corrupt bureaus
Our great jawans have nothing but only sorrow
Let us bow our heads to those real-life heroes.

Pay your tax to be very brave to take a wise decision today
Don't you wish your grandchildren to happily play?
We Indians are proud to celebrate Republic day
Protected by soldiers on the border who never sway, we the youth let's speak the truth"

SHIVA SURYA

I’m Shiva Surya doing B.Com in A.M. Jain College and a former student of St. Britto’s MHSS. It gives me pleasure to share my views on the Republic Day celebrations every year at my school which gave me a clear knowledge about the constitution and basic rights of our country that I shared in my Independence Day programme in my college and was much appreciated by all.

No matter we are a citizen or a powerful politician, we must respect the principles and values given to us by our constitution. We must keep moving to build the nation and stay strong in not leaving the foundation on which the county is built. We must preserve the rights and execute it when required which will lead others also to follow this. Moving ahead of hardships, challenges, our constitution arrowed to create a perfect platform for the citizens to enjoy equal rights not pertaining to religion, caste, sex, creed and culture.
